From Mardin to Geneva: Winners of the Security and Human Rights Essay Competition Announced

Following the 5th International Summer School in Mardin, we are proud to present the winning essays by Nangoh Maseke Huffnagel and Rafael Mendonça. Awarded with a visit to the FNF Human Rights Hub in Geneva to participate in the 14th UN Forum on Business and Human Rights, these young experts offer critical insights in their articles.

Following the 5th International Summer School on Security and/or Human Rights held in Mardin, an essay competition was organized to deepen the program's impact and encourage participants' intellectual contributions.

As a result of the competition, works by Nangoh Maseke Huffnagel from Cameroon and Rafael Mendonça from Brazil were awarded. The winners earned the opportunity to visit the FNF Human Rights Hub in Geneva and participate in the 14th UN Forum on Business and Human Rights.

In his essay titled "Defending Peace, Security and Human Rights for Future Generations: The Duties and Obligations of Our Generation," Nangoh Maseke Huffnagel draws on his personal experiences of migration and asylum to question the impact of legal distinctions between asylum seekers and refugees on human dignity.

Rafael Mendonça, in his work titled "Organised Crime and Multidimensional Security: A Liberal Analysis on Peace and Human Rights in Brazil and South America," reveals that organized crime groups are not merely a security issue but a multidimensional structure threatening democratic institutions and human rights.
