International Summer School on Security and/or Human Rights
The 6th International Summer School held in Mardin brought together young professionals from all over the world to discuss the balance between security and human freedoms. The resulting policy report is now available for review.
Organized in partnership with the Human Rights Academy and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, the 6th International Summer School took place between 8 and 12 June 2026 in Mardin.
Titled Security and/or Human Rights Navigating Freedom in a World of Polycrisis, the program provided an international platform to explore the difficult questions that arise when emergency security measures affect fundamental rights.
Bringing together young professionals from across the globe, the sessions focused on identifying ways to address modern crises while protecting human dignity. Participants worked in regional groups covering Wider Europe, the Indo Pacific, and the Middle East to analyze complex fictional but realistic crisis scenarios.
The interactive workshops enabled the development of practical policy recommendations for global issues such as flood driven border crises, artificial intelligence based urban surveillance systems, and drought related conflicts over water access. Through these discussions, the Summer School empowered participants to emphasize the importance of international cooperation, strong legal safeguards, and independent oversight of new technologies.
